The Paris Wildcats faced off against the Pittsburg Pirates on Thursday, March 14, 2019, for their second district game of the season.

Coming out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring two runs, the Wildcats held on to that lead for the entirety of the game. However, the game got interesting in the top of the fourth when the Pirates closed the gap by scoring one run.

That did not stop the powerhouse defense of the Wildcats infield who eventually closed out the game with phenomenal pitching from the Junior Coleman Lewis.

Ending the game in the top of the seventh in edge-of-the-seat style, with a pop fly out to midfield, the whole crowd went quiet as the midfielder Mason Napier stumbled to make the final catch. With a final score of 2 – 1, the Wildcats morale is running high as they move on with the season.

“I thought we played a great game and everyone was ready to play. We showed up with an aggressive mentality to beat Pittsburg, and that’s exactly what we did” said pitcher Coleman Lewis.

This win moved the Wildcats to fourth place in district with a district record of 1 – 1.

They are highly anticipated to move up quickly as the season is still young. The ‘Cats will travel to take on Pleasant Grove tonight at 7 p.m. Pleasant Grove currently sits at first in the district but that is likely to change after they face the powerhouse Wildcats.
