Young Leaders of Lamar County || Jason Mitchell

-

Roxton High School Junior Jason Mitchell has gone from being a follower to becoming a leader in just a matter of years. He not only leads those around him in sports but also in academics within the classroom. Mitchell is a Young Leader of Lamar County and always stands up for what is right.

Mitchell grew up in Roxton, Texas, where he studied and played sports all throughout his childhood. He has always been competitive and sports became the easiest way for him to release his energy. Growing up, Jason always had an interest in helping animals and he hopes to go to Veterinarian school after he graduates from the dual-credit program that Roxton has with Paris Junior College.

Mitchell competes in basketball, baseball, track, and golf; he also spends a lot of time studying and is the Valedictorian of his 2020 class. Mitchell helped lead his basketball and baseball team to the playoffs in 2018 and went to Area in track and field where he competed in long jump and triple jump in back-to-back appearances during the 2017 and 2018 season.

Being the Valedictorian of his class, he is an all A student and spends most of his time working at Braums or practicing basketball. When he is at practice, he enjoys helping the underclassmen get ready for the next level of sports and pushing them to lead the team in multiple varieties.

Mitchell’s favorite memory of high school so far is when he was able to make Beta his freshman year. He said he is grateful for the programs he is in because “They helped build me and shape my character while also building my integrity.” A piece of advice for the underclassmen from Mitchell, “No matter how bad or boring it gets keep your grades up.”
