One teenager has been arrested and another is under investigation after allegedly making what authorities are calling “alarming statements.”

Alexander Barnett Bene, 18, was arrested by Lamar County Sheriff’s Office deputies late Monday night for terroristic threats. According to records, he was taken to Lamar County Jail shortly before 10:30 p.m. He paid his $5,000 bond about 12 hours later and was released this morning around 10 a.m.

“There’s one more student who is being investigated right now,” said Prairiland Superintendent Jeff Ballard. “Bene will not be allowed to come back to school. The other student won’t, either, depending on how his investigation goes.”

On Monday, an alert was sent to Prairiland ISD parents telling them an investigation into “alarming statements” was ongoing.

“A couple of students made statements they shouldn’t have made in light of all that’s gone on in the world recently,” Ballard said. “The students are currently in the work program so they are not on campus at the moment. No one is in any danger, however, we do take these types of situations seriously and we are investigating the statements with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.”

The exact statements that were said by the students have not been released to the public.
