Former Lion Devondrick Walker signs with Italy’s Pallacanestro Trieste


Former Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball player Devondrick Walker has signed a professional contract to play in Italy. The 6-foot-5-inch guard from Garland has signed to play with the Alma Pallacanestro Trieste team in Trieste, Italy.

Walker, who last played for the Lions during the 2013-14 season, competed in 84 contests over three years for A&M-Commerce. During his senior season, he averaged 13.6 points and shot better than 43 percent from the three-point line. His play earned him Second Team All-Lone Star Conference honors. He was also a member of the All-LSC Academic team in his senior year.

Walker would go on to try out for the Austin Spurs of the NBA’s Developmental League, the G-League, earning a spot on the squad. In his second season in the G-League, Walker played for the Westchester Knicks and in his third season, was traded to the Delaware 87ers. Walker would go on to have a career year, averaging 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists, earning the G-League 2016-17 Most Improved Player award. In the 2017-18 season, he played for the Perth Wildcats in the National Basketball League in Australia.

The Pallacanestro Trieste play in the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), the highest tier basketball league in Italy. The league was established in 1920 while the team’s origins can be traced all the way back to 1863. The team joined the LBA to begin the 2018-19 season after winning the 2017-18 championship in the Serie A2 Basket league. The LBA consists of 16 teams.
