Members of the Prairiland FFA Chapter traveled to Huntsville, Thursday, November 29th, to compete in Texas FFA’s Leadership Career Development Events.
Prairiland’s Agriculture Advocacy and Public Relations teams qualified for the state competition by placing first or second in their Area contest. Agriculture Advocacy placed first at District and second at Area. Public Relations placed first at District and second at Area, as well. More than 5,100 entries began the statewide-tournament in 13 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills.
Both Prairiland FFA teams advanced all the way to the Semi-finals and placed 8th in Heat #2 of the Agriculture Advocacy Contest. Team members included: Carsyn Fernandez, Gracie Harp, Allen Elliott, Madison Story, and Emily Newman. The Public Relations team was 10th in Heat #2 of their contest.
The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA associations with a membership of more than 123,000 active FFA members. FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.
Sam Houston State University has partnered with Texas FFA in hosting these competitions for more than 80 years.
