Historic Roxton plays last home game


The historic Roxton Lions played their last home game February 8, against the Savoy Cardinals. because Roxton ISD is consolidating with Chisum ISD next school year this was the last basketball game to ever be played at Roxton High School. With great community support, it was a special night for the Roxton seniors as they not only played their last home game but also will be the final class to graduate from Roxton ISD.

Playing hard and playing fast, the Cardinals came out fast and established an early lead over the Lions sending them to the locker room at halftime with a score of 40 – 25. However, late in the third quarter, the Lions were able to close the deficit due to a great effort by Tamaze Dangerfield and Gideon Newman. Even though the Lions were able to close the gap to just a few points, it was not enough, and the Cardinals soared to take the victory with a final score of 72 – 45.


“The boys played hard, they had a good season, it is coming down to an end and we have one more game where we will try to go out as a winner. Thanks to all the people that came out to support and everything that Roxton has meant to basketball and basketball has meant to Roxton” Coach Samuel Hollenshead on the historic Roxton Lions final season.

The Lions will travel for their final game of the season next week as they take on the Fruitvale Bobcats on February 12 at 5:30 p.m.
