Remembering State Trooper Jeffrey Don Nichols || Three years later

-

Today marks three years since Lamar County residents heard the news that Texas State Trooper Jeffrey Don Nichols was killed in a single-vehicle crash while on patrol in Tigertown, Texas.

It was reported that his patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree on FM 38, approximately one-half-mile north of County Road 35450. Trooper Nichols served with the Texas Highway Patrol for five years and is survived by his parents, sister and brother.

“DPS and the State of Texas have lost one of our finest in the line of duty,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw, at the time of the tragedy. “Every day Trooper Nichols honored his pledge to proudly protect the people of Texas, and his service and sacrifice will always be cherished and remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time.”

A portion of Highway 82 was named the”Trooper Jeffrey Nichols Memorial Highway” in honor of Trooper Nichols. The portion of the highway in his honor spans from US-82 at the 4200 block of Lamar Avenue to the Red River County line.

  1. Is this the one that wasn’t wearing his seat belt or was it the Fannin co. deputy? or both?
