City Manager John Godwin has been placed on a suspension after a 4-2 vote during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting with the Paris City Council.
City Mayor Steve Clifford said he and council made the “difficult decision” they “believed was in the best interest for the city of Paris.
“Mr. Godwin has requested a public hearing,” Clifford said. “There will be a public discussion at that time regarding the issues as to why Godwin was suspended.”
Godwin said he was told council wanted a “different management style.
“I am afraid this means the end of my seven-plus great years in Paris,” Godwin said. “I have loved both living and working here, and am very glad I made the move from the Dallas area.”
Godwin said he was unsure what particular management style council didn’t appreciate.
The date for the public hearing has not been announced, and there has been no mention of an interim city manager at this time.
Councilmembers who voted for Godwin’s suspension include Clifford, Paula Portugal, Linda Knox and Clayton Pilgrim. Ranae Stone and Derrick Hughes opposed the suspension.
Bill Trenado was absent during Monday’s meeting.
