On, Sunday, June 23, 2019, Don W. Drake, loving husband and father of four children passed away at the age of 69.
Don was born on May 15, 1950 in McKinney, Tx. to Felix and Patsy Drake. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1968. He served our country in the United States Air Force for eight years beginning in 1969. Don earned his Associates Degree in Radiology Technology from Paris Junior College. He worked at McCustion and Paris Regional Medical Center for approximately 40 years. There, he met the love of his life, Debbie. On March 23, 1981, he married Debbie and became an instant father of four, 3 boys and 1 girl. Together they raised these four children Michael, Billy, James and Becki.
Don had a passion for photography. Don and Debbie enjoyed traveling to National Parks always on the lookout for the perfect waterfall photo opportunity. He created many fun memories playing softball, even when he’d hit the ball, and have someone else run the bases. Don was an avid music lover, collecting an impressive vinyl record collection. He enjoyed attending concerts or even just watching them on his computer. He had an appreciation for all kinds of music.
Don has recently been described as one of a kind; an amazing man, full of character, with a heart of gold, a true friend, who was fun, funny, and so greatly loved. He was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. The way he’d throw his head back when he’d laugh, his kind and compassionate spirit. He was the leader of his family; the steadfast stone that never wavered. He loved his family and was so loved in return. Once, it was said, Don was the best thing that ever happened to Debbie and her children, and somehow, they too, were the best thing that ever happened to him. His family will miss him everyday, and love him until the end of time, for he will always be their “Leader of the Band.”
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Patsy Drake, his brothers, Felix W. Drake and Jimmy Ollie Drake, and son, William Frank (Billy) Kitchens. He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Debbie. Don will also be fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren, Will, Cody, Rocky, Paris, Bryce, Michaela, Brody, Brennan, and Brooks, by his brother, Bennie and wife Gayle.
