North Lamar Alumna Jenilyn Saunders is an  Autopsy Assistant II in Galveston, Texas.

Saunders was recently in a documentary filmed and produced by NBC that features three women at the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office following the deadly school shooting at Santa Fe High School in May.

In the documentary titled ‘The Last Doctors’, NBC shares the challenges of keeping professional and personal lives separate for the women at the medical examiner’s office.

“It almost opened old wounds for me in the sense that I felt sad, then guilty, then sad again. The exact same cycle of emotions I felt when the shooting occurred,” said Saunders. “I don’t want people to watch this and think ‘Oh, poor Jeni…’ I want people to understand that mass shootings like this have a much farther reach than the families of the victims. It has a vast, but silent, ripple effect amongst those of us who have a duty to act in these situations, from the police to us, to funeral home directors, to grief counselors, etc.”
