The Powderly Volunteer Fire Department is accepting donations for its upcoming chili supper and auctions. The event is set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, starting at 4 p.m. at the Aaron Parker Elementary school gym.
“For $5, you get chili and all the trimmings,” said information officer Randi Johnson. “We’ll also have corn dogs for the kids and a live and silent auction.”
Right now, the fire department is seeking donations for the live and silent auctions.
“We always have a variety of numerous items every year,” Johnson said. “There is always something for everyone.”
A gun raffle will also take place during the event.
“We began this raffle nearly a year ago and the lucky winners will be drawn at the chili supper that night,” Johnson said. “Also, you don’t have to be present to win.”
Tickets for the raffle are $10 apiece and will be sold through the event. Recently, the fire department received two grants – one for the Texas Forestry Service and one from FEMA. Johnson said with these grants, the fire department was able to purchase new gear to outfit 32 firefighters. However, this means fundraising is even more important, Johnson said.
“This means the department will need to provide maintenance to all the new gear, so fundraising is especially important. The community support is such a big deal and, with that, we can serve the community with our best foot forward,” she said. “We thank each and every one of you for what you do. It takes a team and our fire department is ready when the call comes.”
