Traffic stop leads to drug bust of sex offender

A traffic stop Tuesday led police to a drug bust when they pulled over a driver in the 2400 block of Lamar Avenue for failure to stop at the stop sign.

Around 10 a.m., Paris police officers pulled over a driver who could not produce any identification and gave the officer a false name.

Curtis Garrett of the Paris Police Department said the driver eventually admitted his name was Kenyon Kareem Abdul Bell.

“Bell was found to have outstanding felony warrants out of Dallas County for sex offender registration violation,” Garrett said.

A search warrant was later executed on Bell’s residence and officers located about 2 ounces of cocaine, 8.5 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine and a pistol.

“He was additionally charged with manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance of more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams, possession of marijuana of more than 5 pounds and possession of a controlled substance,” Garrett said.

Garrett said Bell admitted to officers he knowingly did not register as a sex offender in Paris and was also charged with another sex offender registration violation.

Bell is awaiting transfer to Lamar County Jail.
