A man is behind bars after fleeing from police and found in possession of drugs Thursday.
Paris Police attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcyclist in the 100 block of SE 17th shortly after 11 p.m. on January 10. The driver attempted to flee on his bike but after about 6 blocks he crashed out in the 1900 block of Lamar Ave.
The chase wasn’t over as the motorcyclist then fled on food and hid behind some bushes behind a residence on NE 20th St. At this point, the suspect, Jeffery Dewayne Whitehead, 32, was arrested and found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
“During the foot chase, officers located a pistol that Whitehead either dropped or threw down,” said Paris Police Officer Curtis Garrett. “Whitehead was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction, possession of a firearm by a felon, manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, displaying a fictitious motor vehicle registration (due to altering the registration sticker), and evading arrest or detention.”
Whitehead was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
