Man gets life for sexual assault, beating of homeless woman in Paris

-

A local man was sentenced to life in prison for the beating and sexual assault of a homeless woman in Paris.

Marcus Dewayne Hawkins, 34, took to the stand earlier this week and pled his case. However, the jury only took about ten minutes to sentence him to life.

“Mr. Hawkins is an evil man and deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison,” said District Attorney Gary Young. “Fortunately, that is exactly the sentence given by Judge Tidwell.  We cannot express how thankful we are that the victim in this case came forward immediately after being brutally raped and then had the courage to testify about the horrific facts. The Paris Police Department, and especially Detective Nica Blake, should be commended for the job they did in solving this crime within hours of it happening.”

The assault took place May 21, 2018, near the Paris Public Library. The identity of the victim will not be published.
