From Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley >
“Yesterday afternoon, the police department was made aware of a law enforcement involved shooting that took place in Hugo, Oklahoma and that a suspect and other injured persons including a child were being transported to a hospital here in Paris. That information was erroneous as only one individual with a gunshot wound was transported to Paris. We learned unofficially that the child was air lifted from Hugo. We do not know where the child was transported to.
An individual, William Devaughn Smith, Jr., was treated and released from the hospital for the gunshot wound. The police department was made aware of an Oklahoma filed felony aggravated robbery warrant on Smith. Smith was arrested on that charge and transported to the police department and later taken to county jail to await extradition proceedings.
We have no information regarding the shooting in Oklahoma.”
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Spokeswoman Brook Arbeitman told Fox News, when police tried making contact with a suspect, 21-year-old William Devaughn Smith, gunfire broke out. She said Smith is a suspect in an armed robbery at a Hugo Pizza Hut.
According to Fox News, Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley said he had no information on the Hugo incident, and Paris police officers arrested Smith on an aggravated robbery warrant.
According to arrest reports, Smith was booked into Lamar County Jail at 9:55 p.m. on Friday and charged with fugitive from justice/robbery of a business.
