Powderly home deemed total loss after electrical fire

A 2,000 square foot home in Powderly was deemed a total loss after an electrical fire started shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. When firefighters from Chicota, Blossom, Powderly, Hopewell, East Post Oak, and Lamar Point arrived on the scene, the house was fully involved leading to the loss of the home. Crockett Intermediate School student Curt Fendley has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service by the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. This award is presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Six local nonprofit agencies will participate in this year’s East Texas Giving Day, April 24, from 6 a.m. to midnight.  The East Texas Giving Day is an 18-hour online event, hosted by the East Texas Communities Foundation, that provides a platform for communities to help with critical funding for local area nonprofits.
