Scam Alert: Evergreen Cemetery

The Paris Police Department has been made aware of what appears to be a new phone scam in the area. A person reported receiving a telephone call which the caller ID showed to be from “Evergreen Cemetery” with the last four digits of the number being “6750”. Officers were told that the caller requested credit card information over the phone. Verification has since been made with representatives from Evergreen Cemetery that they have not made any such calls nor do they request credit/debit card information. Anyone receiving this type of call should hang up and call the police department....

Suspect arrested for robbery last night

At 2 a.m. this morning, officers responded to a call in the 1600 block of N. Main in regards to a robbery complaint. Officers were told that a black male wearing a white shirt and jogging pants had just told the complainant that he had a gun and then demanded money. The suspect was able to take money from the register drawer and then fled the scene. Officers then made contact with Roosevelt Hearn in the 800 block of Hickory who fit the suspect description. North Lamar Senior named the 2017 Gold Medalist in the Tuba Student Division

Dedication, discipline and hard work pays off! North Lamar High School senior Seth Carter competed in the International Leonard Falcone Euphonium and Tuba Festival on August 11-14 in Twin Lakes, Michigan.  Carter, the youngest of those who competed in the 20-year-old and younger category, was named the 2017 Gold Medalist in the Tuba Student Division.
