A local contractor has been granted 96 days for road repairs and upgrades along US 271 in Lamar and Red River counties.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced that work would begin April 18, however, motorists will begin seeing construction sings as of today. The work will extend along US 271 from Loop 286 in Paris, Texas, southeastward to State Highway 37 in Red River County.
The project, valued at $6.4 million, is expected to be completed by local contractor, RK Hall LLC, by August, weather permitting. During this time, crews will perform full-depth asphalt repairs, improve guardrails, overlay the entire width of the roadway and place new pavement markings. This project will require temporary lane closures at times and motorists should be aware and alert at all times throughout this route.
“Motorists who frequently travel US 271 in Lamar and Red River Counties are asked to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones,” said Tim McAlavy of TxDOT. “They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.”
