Paris and Lamar County law enforcement officers were treated to a special dinner Thursday night in honor of law enforcement appreciation day.
Lamar County Adopt-a-Cop, Lamar-Red River County Crime Stoppers and Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association joined forces to put together the event. Law enforcement from the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office to game wardens and police officers all gathered in Love Civic Center to share a dinner catered by Crawford’s Hole in the Wall at 7 p.m.
Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass gave opening remarks and introduced the speaker, Paris City Manager John Godwin.
Godwin spoke about ways to maintain hope while on the job, using an analogy of his time in the hospital after a heart attack. He said his caregivers were able to lift him up during the worst time in his life, and that is similar to what law enforcement does for the people they serve.
“You see these people in their worst times — times of crisis — and you have to keep that in mind and figure out how to communicate with and help them,” Godwin said. “Just like my nurses and doctors did for me.”
