LEC-electricity-prices-go-down

Lamar Electric Cooperative General Manager Jerry Williams recently announced electricity prices should go down for most of the company’s consumers, with the average home seeing a reduction of about $20 per month.

This change comes after LEC was able to score an agreement with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas that will allow the company to secure wholesale power rates from ERCOT.

Williams said LEC will also take advantage of some of the currently lower-priced wind and solar power and maintain retail rates closer to unregulated retail energy providers.

“This reduction is estimated to be about 2 cents per kilowatt-hour,” Williams said. “This reduction should start appearing on customers’ bills with the first billing cycle in January.”
