“We were honored to have several students and quest participate in the program,” said Superintendent Kelly Pickle.
The elementary art students, taught by Lisa Birdsong, contributed to the red, white, and blue decorations to thank the Veterans for their service along with Betty Moffit’s character education classes.
Melissa Greene, Roxton ISD parent, was the guest speaker and her daughter Makayla Glover also spoke about her experience of having her mother in the Army while she was so young.
“Her speech was moving and so very thought-provoking. Thank you, Melissa and Makayla” said, Pickle.
Complimenting the program was The Roxton Jazz Band who performed the National Anthem and the tribute to each branch of the Armed Forces alongside the Roxton ISD Jr. Choir who performed a song called “Thank you Soldiers” which was written by Roxton ISD Choir teacher, Andrea Kirkindoff.
Tim Walsworth of Angels HomeCare provided cakes and cookies for the dessert for the meal and presented each Vet with a “pass-it-on” gold coin for Veterans to share with other Veterans they meet.
