Cory JonesSo many times in life, we base our confidence on our own strength and abilities. But with those, also come all of our failures and mistakes. And when our abilities fail us, we’re left feeling insecure and unsure. We fall victim to depression, and take ourselves out of the game of life all because we let insecurity dominate our confidence. So where should your confidence lie if not in yourself?

In Luke 22 and John 18, we read the account of Peter’s denial of Jesus. Peter was so confident in himself, that he told Jesus He was wrong when Jesus warned him that he would deny Him. But Peter, so intimidated by fear, denies even knowing Jesus three times that next morning. This was Peter who was best friends with Jesus! He was the one that had acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, and was now too afraid to admit to knowing Him. So scared, that he denied knowing Jesus even when asked by a young servant girl. Peter had fallen victim to the belief that his confidence was based on his own strengths and abilities. And when faced with the possibility of death, his confidence failed.

But, just weeks later, in Acts 3, we see Peter heal a lame man in Jesus’ name. And then in chapter 4, he is brought before the same rulers who had just had Jesus killed, and had the confidence to, essentially, tell them off for their actions. As opposed to cowering, Peter, “filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:8-12)

WOW!!! What boldness!!! Not just acknowledging Jesus, but truly showing Jesus within his life!!!

You see, confidence isn’t found in what you think you can do, but in what He says you can do. Our insecurities create an idea that we are not qualified to complete what God has called us to, but God doesn’t disqualify you based on your inadequacies or insecurities. NO! He qualifies you based on His view of who you are in HIM! Based on what He purposed in you from the beginning! We can live in confidence with approval FROM Him rather than in insecurity looking FOR approval from others!

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

“If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Put your confidence in Him and what He says about you, and with Him, all things are possible!
