  1. Know Yourself

Ask yourself a few questions before you decide on a plan to move forward with your health.

  • Do you prefer to make a lot of changes (drastically change your diet, start an intense work out program, etc.) all at one time or do you need to go at a slower pace, implementing and adding in new healthy choices over a longer period of time? Neither is better, but if you don’t know which one will work for you, then you may be setting yourself up to fail before you even begin. Choose a method that will be realistic for you to implement with your current lifestyle and one that won’t create unnecessary stress. There are many programs out there that would serve you well as a starting point on your health journey such as the Whole30 if you prefer strict rules and guidelines and jumping straight in. However, working one-one-one with a health coach, like myself, may prove to be more helpful and less overwhelming for you, as I can help you address the specific health challenges that you are concerned with and help you go at a pace that will work for you.
  1. Learn to Filter Information

This has been key to my health journey. We live in a day and age where we have information overload. You can scroll Facebook or browse the internet researching health topics and quickly come to feel like EVERYTHING is toxic to our bodies and that you are doing everything wrong when it comes to your health. If you are not careful to filter the information you are reading and watching, you will end up feeling completely overwhelmed and have no idea where to start.

I believe the best place to start when making a healthy lifestyle change is with food. The rest can wait for another time when you are ready both mentally and financially to make more changes. Yes, the sunscreen, the make-up, the water you drink, the pans you cook your food in, the cleaning products you use, etc. may also be adding toxic load to your body, but PLEASE don’t stress yourself out about these things. Choose to work on ONE area of your health at a time and make baby steps to create a cleaner more toxin free environment in your home over time. The information on cleaner and safer products will always be there when you are ready to revisit it. The constant stress of worrying about IT ALL is not worth it. In fact, if you are always stressed and overwhelmed about everything, this can be far more damaging to your health in the long run. Relax. Do the best you can with what you feel like you can manage changing and working on now.

  1. Let go of the quick fix mentality

It would be silly to assume that in just a couple of weeks, or even months, you could find yourself in perfectly good health when realistically you have spent a majority of your life (decades most likely) making poor choices. This mentality needs to end. Your health is an investment that will take time, patience, consistency and a decision on your end to make it a priority. No magic pill, natural supplement protocol, or quick fix program will be the answer to lasting and sustainable health. If you cannot understand this, then you will most likely continue to bounce from program to program, never reaching your health goals. You will think the program or trainer or health coach failed you and will most likely go right back to what you were doing before, when in reality, what most likely failed you was your own mindset. The choice to make lasting change starts with YOU, no one else or no other program. If you can understand this vital piece, then you are ready to make a healthy lifestyle change and I would be happy to work with you and you will do well.
