There is just something about a warm drink to sip on when it is cold outside. As the cold weather settles in and makes its stay over the next couple of months, I want you all to have a healthier alternative to try in place of the popular high sugar, artificially flavored, and inflammatory drinks you may otherwise buy or make. While your regular hot chocolate or chai tea latte may have a special place in your heart this holiday season, they are unfortunately damaging to your health, especially if you drink them on a regular basis.
Consider one of my new favorite alternatives to not only warm up to this holiday season, but also support your overall health.
- ½ cup unsweetened coconut milk, warmed
- ½ cup filtered water, warmed
- ¼ teaspoon organic ground turmeric
- 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil or ghee
- Pinch of pepper
- Raw unfiltered honey to desired sweetness
- Optional: 1-2 scoops vital protein collagen peptides for added protein as well as gut, joint, bone and overall health support
- Optional: 1 teaspoon turmeric ghee in replace of the individual ingredients turmeric, coconut oil/ghee and pepper. This is very high quality product that I love and is made with each of these ingredients combined.
Coconut Milk: coconut milk is not necessarily known for its amazing health benefits, especially when store bought, but it is a great dairy alternative that does not have the hard to digest protein casein in it or lactose that are in dairy products.
Turmeric: Curcumin, the main active ingredient in turmeric, is a powerful anti-inflammatory and is a very strong antioxidant.
Coconut oil/Ghee: Both are made of up medium chain fatty acids that are extremely easy to digest and are processed by the liver which means they are immediately converted to energy rather than being stored as fat. Ghee specifically contains butyrate, a short chain fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and is high in vitamins A, D and K2 which are important for healthy bones.
Pepper: Is known for increasing the absorbability of turmeric throughout the entire body.
Raw Unfiltered Honey: Contains phytonutrients and antioxidants that have been shown to have cancer preventing and anti-tumor properties that are not found in pasteurized honey due to the high heat processing method that destroys them.
Vital proteins collagen peptides: Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is necessary for healthy skin, hair, nails, tendons, bones and joints. The amino acids that are abundant in collagen are also the same amino acids that make up our gastrointestinal tract, which means this product may help heal the stomach and intestinal lining, something that everyone could benefit from since 80% of our immune system lies within our gut. Supporting the gut is supporting the overall immune system. This is my favorite protein supplement that I would recommend to everyone as a daily overall health support. It can be added to both hot or cold beverages and has no flavor.
